
ADRA SA has worked in the health sector space for a period of 12 years with a focus on building community resilience to mitigate the psycho-social impact of HIV/AIDS on individuals and communities in South Africa. The approaches used by ADRA SA to penetrate different communities desegregated by gender, age, ethnicity an faith affiliation/non-affiliation, included though not necessarily limited to:
(a) Interfaith inclusion and increased understanding of the clinical and psycho-social dimensions of the pandemic.
(b) Destigmatization of HIV/AIDS through messaging and reversal of stigmatization roles.
(c) Strengthening of the psycho-social resilience through recruitment and training of the TOT’s.
(d) Strengthening of group resilience through the formation of support groups.
(e) Strengthening of sustainable livelihood with a focus on market-driven income generating activities and linkages of the producers with the market networks.
